Hello. My name is Tanya Shoop and I teach the Alexander Technique in South London, based in Brixton, London SW2 (and Herne Hill SE24/ Tulse Hill SE27 borders). I largely work one to one but have a date for a one-off introductory workshop coming up: Friday 16 May (2 spaces left). Please see the workshop page for more details. Whether you feel you have something 'wrong' with you or not, the Alexander Technique offers something for everyone. The effects usually include a feeling of lightness, calmness and better poise. In Alexander Technique lessons we explore which of our habits affect posture or contribute to discomfort such as back, neck or shoulder pain, headaches, arthritis or RSI. It is a technique that we can use in daily life to get the best out of ourselves, no matter what we do or how old we are. On my new blog page there will be various Alexander inspired thoughts and ideas which I will be adding to regularly. "The Alexander Technique will benefit anyone whether they are an elite athlete or whether they just wish to live life without the aches and pains that many people suffer and accept as part of life. It is a pity that these techniques are not shown to us all at an early age for I have no doubt that this would alleviate many of the causes of ill health in our communities." Greg Chappell, Australian test cricketer (1970 - 1984) "The Alexander Technique makes a real difference to my often tense and busy life. Its thoughtful approach has made me calmer, improved my concentration and given me a clearer sense of my own well being." Joan Bakewell, TV presenter and journalist You may wish to read this Guardian newspaper article, written by one of my pupils, which describes his experience of Alexander Technique lessons.
