Hello. My name is Tanya Shoop and I teach the Alexander Technique in South London, based in Brixton, London SW2 (and Herne Hill SE24/ Tulse Hill SE27 borders). From 1 September I will also be working in the City of London, on London Wall between Moorgate and Liverpool Street. I mainly work one to one but also run occasional introductory workshops. The next one is on Friday 12 September in Brixton.

Stop Press: The results of a major NHS back pain trial have just come out in the British Medical Journal showing that there is significant long-term benefit for people suffering from low back pain with Alexander Technique lessons. Read More

In Alexander Technique lessons we explore which of our habits affect posture or contribute to discomfort such as back, neck or shoulder pain, headaches, arthritis or RSI. It is a technique that we can use in daily life to get the best out of ourselves, no matter what we do or how old we are.

"The Alexander Technique will benefit anyone whether they are an elite athlete or whether they just wish to live life without the aches and pains that many people suffer and accept as part of life. It is a pity that these techniques are not shown to us all at an early age for I have no doubt that this would alleviate many of the causes of ill health in our communities."  Greg Chappell, Australian test cricketer (1970 - 1984)

"The Alexander Technique makes a real difference to my often tense and busy life. Its thoughtful approach has made me calmer, improved my concentration and given me a clearer sense of my own well being."  Joan Bakewell, TV presenter and journalist

You may wish to read this Guardian newspaper article, written by one of my pupils, which describes his experience of Alexander Technique lessons.
