Lessons

Generally I work one-to-one with people and tailor each Alexander Technique lesson to their specific needs.

We start by working with simple movements, such as sitting and standing, which are basic to everyday activity. We also look at a particular way of lying down to get the very most from relaxation – an ideal 10-minute exercise to build into daily routine.

Through discussion and a guiding touch, they learn to move with greater balance and poise, to prevent tension.  We pay particular attention to the release of unwanted head, neck and spinal muscle tension.

Once we’ve explored the basic principles, we can look at activities they carry out at work or at home.  These might be walking, bending, carrying and typing.

We may also do some saddle work to get more freedom in the legs and hip joints.

There is a lot more to an Alexander Technique lesson than meets the eye.

Everyone’s requirements are different. Some people need just a few sessions and others more. Some also like to use the sessions for regular relaxation. To gain the most benefit, weekly sessions are recommended initially.

The best idea is come along for an introductory session to find out more and see if it will work for you.

There is plenty to be discovered in one session. If you like it, book another. If you don’t – there is no obligation to continue. But as with any skill, the more you look into it, the more you will get from it.
